fernweh


the shores are so beautiful at this
time of day.
an oncoming storm approaches, thunder rattling
each & every bone;
in the shadow of these hills, I embrace it with
each & every bone.


someone has stepped here before me.
I can feel them like a ghost,
surrounded by all of the souls
that will never be free.
but almost.
so close.


when the sun broke,
I was no longer a shadow, searching fruitlessly in
this wonderland.
I had rooted myself in this soil, planted so deeply in
this soft sand;
in a world that had not wanted me.


and yet.

Kaz Britton (they/them) is a junior from Cincinnati, OH who is currently studying English with a certificate in Copyediting & Publishing. They primarily write fiction and poetry with a preference to fantasy.
