Jacob Powell

Music Of The Line

I can’t even begin to think of how to write differently.

I mean to oppose who I am? That seems wrong, that

Opposes my own thoughts, does it not?

You ask of me to betray myself well

“That's the assignment” you say well

That's okay I suppose

Not.

I fight the assignment, I oppose opposition.

                    You can't control my pen

                                                              Nor can I.

                                      It may write

Where it pleases. Even if it shouldn’t

The temptation is like no other,

To advocate for the devil.

It's so easy to corrupt,

Think of the apple.

Jacob Powell is a freshman at UC Clermont with a major in English. He is an aspiring poet and short story writer who loves nontraditional writing as well as gothic horror and fantasy, but as long as what he's reading has some well thought out meaning it's worth reading. He spends his time staying busy in any way the world will allow, from gardening and landscaping to sand volleyball and working. If he’s not working, he is still probably working somehow.
